The Trainee will be provided with onsite training and mentoring while completing a Certificate in one of the below options. This is an excellent opportunity to join Local Government within the Southern Downs and Granite Belt Region. On the job training will be provided within paid work time. We have a current opportunity within the Works Department working alongside the Works crews for the Sealed Networks around the Warwick region.

This training is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. 

This program offers young and disadvantaged job seekers the chance to join our team through a paid, hands - on traineeship. Participants will gain practical skills and real-world experience while working towards a nationally recognised qualification and making a positive contribution to the local community.

 

Term:                         Temporary Full-time - 12 months

Hours of Work:         76 hours per fortnight 

Pay Level:                 The pay level for these positions is dependent on the age and prior education of the successful candidates. 

Indicative salary levels are between $1067.16 to $2009.34 per fortnight, plus superannuation and leave loading.

Construction Allowance - $80.90 per fortnight 

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience. 

Employment Base:  Warwick, Queensland

Other Information:    Must be able to start by 30th June 2026

About the Department

The Works Department falls within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate to deliver essential services to the community by planning, designing, constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, culverts, stormwater infrastructure, kerb and channel, footpaths and street lighting.  In addition, the Works department provides services to the Department of Transport and Main Roads under contract to maintain sections of the state-controlled road network within Southern Downs. The department further governs activities conducted by members of the community, such as the construction of private driveway accesses.

Working within the SDRC Works Department will offer you the satisfaction of directly delivering infrastructure services for the Southern Downs community.

• Undertake the assigned work tasks and activities within both the workplace and training context, including:
  o Participating in the development of the Training Plan,
  o Performing duties in accordance with the Training Plan registered with a Recognised Training Organisation (RTO),
  o Attending training sessions or supervised workplace activities,
  o Maintaining a record of training, such as a Training Record Book and Workplace Diary,
  o Proactively complete the units within the Civil Construction Traineeship in a timely manner, and
  o Attend regular meetings with the supervisor and RTO representative to discuss progress;
• Provide proactive labouring support on civil construction work sites

 

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• The legal right to live and work in Australia
• A white construction card or the ability to obtain one is a mandatory requirement for this role.
• A genuine interest in learning and working in the civil construction industry.
• Ability to commit to the full Traineeship program and competently complete course work and assessment required to complete the Certificate within specified timeframes.
• Sound literacy and numeracy skills.
• Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise positively with co-workers and supervisors.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods undertaking manual handling and labouring work.
• Ability to work cohesively within a team environment.
• To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
